Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Billing Specialist with experience working with Athena Software. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and processing patient billing, ensuring accuracy in claim submissions, and working efficiently with Athena to track, resolve, and follow up on claims and payments. This position requires strong knowledge of healthcare billing practices, coding, and familiarity with Athena’s billing software to streamline the process.

Key Responsibilities:

• Medical Billing: Process, verify, and submit claims for reimbursement using Athena Software, ensuring compliance with insurance policies and payer requirements.
• Claims Management: Follow up on unpaid or rejected claims, identifying and resolving issues to ensure timely payments. Track all claims through the entire billing cycle.
• Payment Posting: Post payments and adjust accounts according to payer remittance advice, ensuring accurate application of payments to patient accounts.
• Coding Support: Assist with coding, ensuring that appropriate ICD, CPT, and HCPCS codes are used for accurate billing.
• Insurance Verification: Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility prior to providing services, ensuring accurate coding and billing.
• Patient Inquiries: Respond to patient billing inquiries, explain charges, and resolve any discrepancies or concerns.
• Reporting: Generate and review billing reports from Athena to track accounts receivable, denied claims, and aging reports, and provide updates to management as needed.
• Compliance: Adhere to HIPAA regulations, healthcare billing laws, and best practices for medical billing and coding.

Qualifications:

• Experience: Minimum of 1-5 years of billing experience, specifically with Athena Software.
• Education: Any Healthcare degree or equivalent. Certification in Medical Billing and Coding (e.g., CPC, CBCS) preferred.
• Technical Skills: Proficient in Athena Software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of healthcare billing procedures, insurance policies, coding standards, and government regulations.
• Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify errors and resolve billing discrepancies efficiently.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in explaining billing issues to patients and insurance representatives.
• Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve billing issues independently, using Athena to research and address claim rejections and denials.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in a healthcare setting (e.g., hospital, physician’s office).
• Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance billing.
• Experience with accounts receivable management and aging reports.
